National Rubber Ducky Day
Most of us have experienced bath time with our own duckies and today we found some interesting information about this fun bath toy.
No one knows exactly how the toy came to be, but everyone has had one at one point in their life. Did you know that the earlier versions of the duckies were made from vulcanized rubber, which was invented by Charles Goodyear.
Back then the rubber duck was a lot heavier so they were instead used as chew toys.
The ducky was made popular in 1969, when Jim Henson sang the song "Rubber Duckie" as Ernie the Muppet, from the old children's show Sesame Street
These ducks have been around since the rise of the rubber industry in the late 1800s, but no one knows their exact origin.
During World War I & II, the ducks had to be made out of vinyl and plastic compounds as the original materials became to costly to continue using.
There so much history behind this classic children's toy, that it's a shocker that no one knows the history behind who created it and where it came from.
